Scruggs Russell

Russell has lived in Birmingham Alabama since 1989, he has been a lifelong artist and has painted professionally for over 25 years.  He retired from at the end of 2020, from being a community banker.  He is now able to devote all his time and energy into his painting.

He is recognized as a landscape and still life painter and is drawn to the quiet palettes in nature.   Early influences were the chiaroscuro style of the old masters and remain an essential element in his portfolio.

Russell enjoys painting plein air when time permits and is inspired from travels to favorite haunts along the gulf coast and Blue Ridge Mountains. Trips to Ireland have been central to the landscape repertoire with the timelessness of the beautiful old churches and castles dotted throughout the countryside.

He is currently represented by Arceneaux Gallery in Homewood since 1995 and now Stonehenge Gallery in Montgomery.
